I love Cypress essential Oil. It has many qualities that I like and use regularly in my massage practice and I have found over the years that it can be used very nicely tucked into blends rather nicely without being an over powering component. Cypress oil or Cupressus sempervirens as known by its latin name is found typically in Spain, France, Italy, and Morocco. Its Cones, Leaves, Twigs are steam distilled to extract the essential oil. Cypress oil has some great qualities emotional speaking to offer support during times of transition or assisting during times of grief. It is also calming and soothing when overwhelmed or scattered.

I love to use Cypress oil in my muscle blends because it offers pain and anti-inflammatory assistance as well as being historically used for things like spasmodic coughs. Because of that we tend to think of Cypress as a good oil for spasms whether muscle or cough related. Which is why we use it in our No More Spazzz Blend because it works so well with the Basil and Peppermint to reduce that tightness and pain but also if you are having emotionally scattered or trying times it brings balance and supports you during those emotionally charged times.

The components in Cypress oil have also been shown to be Antibacterial, Antioxidant, Astringent, Decongestant, and Diuretic. With its woody, resinous aroma it adds a good base to middle note to a blend and blends nicely with oils like Lavender, Tea Tree, Geranium, Cedarwood, Pine, Orange, Sandalwood, Clary Sage, Juniper Berry and Jasmine. As you can see pairing it with oils to reduce muscle tension and pain works well as does adding it to oils to support emotional health and stress. Typically, Cypress oil is considered safe and using at normal dilutions should be ok. As there is not much research of use during pregnancy using in very limited amounts or 1% dilutions would be recommended.

I have listed below a few of my favorite ways to use Cypress essential oil.
