Lavender oil might be one of the most well known essential oils around. It has over a 100 uses and does so many things it has earned its place in glory. For many it is their first experience with Essential Oils and is what makes many of us intrigued by them. Lavender oil, Lavandula angustifolia is a relaxation powerhouse. But it is also wonderful for the skin, muscle issues, pain and so much more. I have used it for years on things like minor burns, bee stings, acne and minor cuts.

It has antibacterial properties, it is also an analgesic (reduces pain), anti- inflammatory, antispasmodic, immune stimulating, sedating to the nervous system and anti allergenic to name a few. I often use this in my diffuser with Clary Sage and Bergamot. I generally fill my diffuser with 2 drops Lavender, 2 drops Clary Sage, and 2 of Bergamot. It is a very soothing and uplifting blend to calm those frazzled thoughts and encourage a sense of well being.

Lavender oil blends well with oils like Clary Sage, Lemon, Peppermint, Bergamot, Frankincense, Sandalwood, and Balsam Copaiba. Give one or two of these recipes a try:

Muscle Blend

Add 2 drops Lavender, 2 drops Balsam Copaiba and 1 drop of Peppermint to 1 ounce of carrier oil and massage onto sore and tired muscles to relax and reduce tightness and pain.

Headache and Tension Inhaler Blend

Combine 4 drops Lavender, 1 drop Peppermint, 2 drops Helichrysum to cotton wick of inhaler/aromastick and cap the end. Use when tension, headache for feelings of stress arise.

Blemish Blend

Blemish Blend for troubled skin is no match for Lavender. Add 3 drops of Lavender and 1 drop of Elemi to 15 ml of Jojoba and 15 ml of Aloe Vera Gel. Gently shake to combine ingredients and spot treat areas of concern.

Have you used Lavender for more than just relaxation? What are your favorite ways to use this wonderful oil?
