Sandalwood essential oil on wood table top

Sandalwood oil, Santalum ablum or Santalum paniculatum  is a very grounding and wonderful oil to add depth to your blends. It is mostly made up of Sesquiterpenes and Sesquiterpenols, these are the chemical families that mostly make up this precious oil, and is usually found in Hawaii, India, Indonesia and Australia.

Sandalwood is great for emotional support and quieting the mind, it is also wonderful for pain, inflammation, spasm, it is sedating to the Central Nervous System and is skin nourishing. This oil is one we love to add to our mood supporting oil blends but also use it during times of physical pain. It offers a deep base note to our blend, kind of an anchor if you will that roots us and grounds us in times we may be flighty or overwhelmed. When blending with Sandalwood remember a little goes far and adding only a few drops can offer great support.

Sandalwood blends well with floral oils such as Rose, Jasmine, Geranium, and Ylang Ylang, adding it to my citrus blends off that lingering base that round out the lovely uplifting sweets of the citrus such as Sweet Orange, Bergamot, Lime and Lemon. Sandalwood also blends well with  the resinous oils of Frankincense, Myrhh and the spicier Ginger and Black Pepper.
