Ways to Use Essential Oils to Boost Mood

Using essential oils and aromatherapy for mood boosting is probably one of the most popular ways to use oils. They are powerful mood boosters by their very nature. Essential oils have an impact on our limbic system, or very basic part of who we are, and can change the way you are feeling quickly. Have a headache inhale a blend that reduces pain, feel cranky, inhale a blend that you love the aroma of or one that uplifts the mind.

Essential oils for mood, anxiety, depression, stress can be inhaled rather than worn or applied topically. These little inhalers and diffusers are excellent ways to get your mind clearer and support your over all emotional health. Another option is to find oils you love that are supportive to your emotional needs and then create a lovely perfume. I did this recently on accident when I was creating a blend for some pain and tendonitis in my forearm. I ended up loving the blend so much that started wearing it just purely for the lovely aroma it offered. I felt good and calm when I wore it and it quickly became my go to oil blend. I love that about aromatherapy, it isn't one size fits all nor is it one oil for one issue you can use oils for multiple things and create what you love.

Creating your own mood boosting inhaler is an and easy way to use your oils quickly and on the go without carrying everything with you all the time. Here is a video of me making a stress blend inhaler from the holidays but this gives you a quick tutorial on how to make one. *Spoiler alert they are SUPER easy and you will wonder where they have been all your life ;) *

Usually with inhalers I use 15 drops total of essential oil as my guide, some times less but that is the basic blend guide. Say you wanted to have a blend that was grounding and calming while boosting mood and self confidence. I would create a blend with Bergamot, Frankincense, and a drop to two of Peppermint.

The more powerful the aroma the less oil you want to use as in the blend mentioned above Peppermint would make up the lowest number of drops in the blend. You can buy inhalers here and give one of these blends a try.

Diffusers are another great way to use oils to support your emotions creating blends that uplift and calm can really help and just be going in the background so once you add your oils to them you can just let them run intermittently for a bit and then turn them off. Of course a major benefit to diffusers is that they make your office or home smell AMAZING! Adding sunny citrus oils or wintergreen and peppermint can just transform a tired and worn out area into a sunny haven. Adding 3-5 drops of essential oil to your diffuser with water is usually more than enough, run it on intermittent for an hour or two and then turn off to give your body a break. After a bit our nose becomes blind to the scent so running it longer will not make the impact more profound just run it for a bit and watch how it changes your mood or helps increase your productivity or mental clarity.

Here I list a few of my favorite blends for aromatic use. Modify them for inhalers or diffusers if you prefer one over the other.
